Well, it's another snow day in the Northeast.
Dude, this weather is getting really sucky.
The kids are home from school again and while I love the little buggers, they have confiscated my itouch, played every board game known to man, built 13 different "forts" (with my good pillows) and gotten into no less than 427 arguments. Now, like a good mom, I have plopped them down in front of the television to zone out to Scooby Doo reruns.
They were outside sledding earlier, but it always takes no less than 30 minutes to get them bundled up so they can go outside and play for 5.
And I didn't mention that 22 of those 30 minutes were spent trying to solve the mystery of the missing glove.
I don't understand how 1 glove can consistently go missing every time I need it.
What never fails, though, is when they come inside from their exhausting 3 minutes of play, they demand hot chocolate.
I am pretty sure that the whole "going outside to play in the snow" is just a carefully hatched scheme devised to get the hot chocolate that they know will inevitably be waiting for them upon re-entrance into the toasty, warm house.
Even I will admit that hot chocolate is a pretty redeeming factor of the snow day.
Chocolate, marshmallow, whipped cream...yes, that is a pretty spectacular beverage.
So since I can't leave well enough alone, topped with my unusual obsession with cereal desserts I decided to give these a go...
Hot Chocolate Krispie Treats
You're welcome.
6 cups cocoa krispies
1/4 cup butter
1 (10.5 oz) bag of mini marshmallows, plus 4 cups divided. (About a bag and a half total)
6 T. hot chocolate mix
cooking spray
sheet of parchment or wax paper- optional
Spray 9x9 square pan with cooking spray.
Set aside
Melt butter in large saucepan over low heat.
When butter is melted add your bag of mini marshmallows and then hot chocolate powder.
Stir while continuing to cook over low heat until marshmallows are melted and chocolate is mixed in.
Remove from heat.
Add in your 6 cups Cocoa Krispies.
Stir until mixed well.
Now add in 2 cups mini marshmallows.
Stir until marshmallows are evenly distributed throughout the krispie mixture.
Pour into prepared pan.
Lightly spray a piece of parchment or wax paper with cooking spray for an easy way to press mixture into pan without it sticking.
If you don't have wax or parchment paper just press evenly into pan with the back of a spoon sprayed with cooking spray.
Immediately spread remaining 2 cups mini marshmallows onto the krispies and press into the mix.
Let cool for 30 minutes and cut into squares.
Store air tight for up to 2 days.
Hope you have a great day, whether it's snowing, raining, or bright and sunny...
I'll be here in the 20 degree weather, chiseling the maple syrup off my itouch :)

Awesome! I was out of cocoa powder a few weeks ago and used hot cocoa instead to make chocolate frosting! Glad to see I'm not the only one.
Oh boy, these sounds chocolatey good. I love how you have all those mini marshmallows scattered in there for a nice chewy bite.
Great variation on a classic! Love this idea.
Love this!
Awesome! I'm gonna try it! We're wishing for snow here in the west...it's too cold to play, and my kids would be out there for HOURS if there was snow. So...today...it's Shaun the Sheep.
I love hot chocolate and this creation is another tempting one!
Your creations are magnificant!
Can't wait to eat some of these :)
Please send some over my way, I think we are close. Great treat for this weather. Have a great weekend.
Oh my heck! I need a pan of these right now! Funny story. We've been hoping for snow but haven't had any yet =o(
These look AWESOME!! I can't wait to try these.
Oh wow....those look so good! We're on our first snow day of the year, these might be just what we need!
And yes, going outside is a ploy for cocoa...at least here. Even the neighbor kids come over to my house after playing to get some!

All I had to do was read the title of the post from the Blogger Dashboard, and I was already thinking, "SHE IS GENIUS." I'm definitely making these in my very near future. Sure, I guess I'll share with the kid & husband. :)

We don't get alot of snow here in the Pacific NW but when we do we always have the 1 glove thing going on too!! lol oh and the 5 mins play;)

Oh man I LOVE chocolate Rice Krispie treats. Love the whole marshmallows in there!
Ohhh my goodness, those look absolutely wonderful!
Not gonna lie, hot chocolate was always a major snow day selling point when I was a kid. Heck, it would still be if I had anything to shovel. Damn school housing. Don't they know what they're messing with!
These rice krispies treats look delicious!
Why didn't i ever think of that? I can't wait to try it! I'll post it on my blog when I do.

First can I say, girl you make me laugh. Yes I love all of your ideas, recipes and pics, but above all I laugh. I to recently posted about switching up the old to a new and this goes to show it's not a bad idea. Happy cereal creations!
I love when the TV gets to play babysitter everyone in a while!
Love your little treats!
ooh! this looks really good! Never thought about putting hot chocolate mix. Will have to try it out : D
I used to have an iTouch.
Now it is just another portal for video games....like everything else in this house. Sigh. I think it's lying on the backseat of my car next to an empty bag of CheezIts and a squashed Capri Sun.
Kids.
Love your Krispie Treats, they look super yummy!!
wow i am in love with your blog! i am definitely a new follower!
Chocolately goodness for sure. Those are some lucky kids to come in from playing in the snow and get this treat. We are buried in snow too, looks like another one coming mid week:)
What a great adaptation to a classic recipe. I love the hot chocolate twist (and I'm sure everyone else did too!) Thank you for sharing this with me! I hope you have a healthy and happy week.

nice twist!
by the way, velma was always my favorite. :)
Adding the cocoa to the marshmallow mixture was a great idea! And I love the layer of marshamallows on top too:)
yummy!
Oooh, more marshmallow and chocolate goodness!! Woohoo!!
I agree about the weather...totally sucky! And 20 degrees?! Lucky you. It has finally warmed up to 28 here today after days of single digit temps with wind chills below zero...too cold to let the little ones outside to play. Ah, well at least I had a few day of not having to search for the missing glove.
As if a rice krispie treat wasn't good enough already you just had to take it to all new levels of deliciousness.! LOVE IT!!!
Thank you, thank you!!! We loved these, they were perfect.
