Today's post is super special for me.
My awesomely great friend Kristan from Confessions of a Cookbook Queen is guesting AND she made krispie treats.
I heart her.
And I know you will too.
If only she could talk her husband into moving up to New Jersey...sigh.
Hey guys!!
I'm Kristan from Confessions of a Cookbook Queen and I am so excited to be visiting Shelly's blog today.
Shelly is pretty much my bloggy BFF. I'd like to say that it's because of her beautiful blog, and her fabulous treats and what a good mom she is...but really it's because I know I can always text her something funny about someone and she won't get on to me or tell me to be nice.
And really, we all need someone we can say whatever we want to and know that they will laugh with us and not tell a soul.
Also, she will talk to me about lip gloss and not freak out when I tell her how much I spent at Sephora.
But besides all that, I definitely adore her because of her love of sugar and mad baking skills.
And one thing I know about Shelly is that she loves Rice Krispie treats. But since she's made almost every Krispie treat that could ever exist, I decided to make a different version using Lucky Charms.
When my 6 year old son was at school, I used to sit and pick all the marshmallows out of the box of Lucky Charms and eat them. Now that he's home for the Summer I can't do that or he will know that it was me the whole time and not a defect at the factory with the marshmallow machine.
I can't help it, the marshmallows are the best part. Plus, he needs the whole grains. The way I see it, I'm helping my kid stay healthy.
And because Shelly is a good friend, I know that she would totally agree with me.
INGREDIENTS
5 cups Lucky Charms
2 1/2 cups mini marshmallows
2 Tablespoons butter
Candy Melts (your choice of color)
Sprinkles for garnish
Butter a 8x8 or 7x11 baking pan.
Measure out 5 cups of Lucky Charms and pour them in a large bowl. In another large microwave-safe bowl, microwave marshmallows and butter on high, stirring every 15 seconds until melted and combined.
Add marshmallow mixture to the bowl of cereal and mix with a large spoon that's been sprayed with nonstick spray. (But if we are being honest here, I sprayed my hands down and mixed it with my hands) Press into prepared pan and allow to cool.
Once cool, cut into squares. Melt candy melts according to package directions and dip bottom half of treats in the melted candy. Sprinkle edges with sprinkles and place on wax paper until set.
I hope to see you guys over at my pink and sparkly blog sometime. Have a fabulous vacation Shelly!!

@SweetSugarBelle... I found the freeze-dried marshmallows at an Amish store in Berea, KY last weekend when we were there for our son's college orientation!!
Kristan, these look awesome and I know my daycare kids will LOVE making these. Thanks!!!!
I just saw something about this the other day! If you're looking for the marshmallows, check out this post I came across on Hello, Good Gravy! That gal is all about the marshmallows and even shares where she orders from. (I love online ordering. Suddenly so many stores available at my fingertips...) Here's her post:

And yes, LOVE the treats! Oh, and Kristan sent me. =)
These look really yummy! I will try them next week when I'm with my grandson...so I wont have to eat them all myself...
I have always wanted to make rice krispy treats with lucky charms! I might have to now.

I definitely agree - the marshmallows are the best part! I love these!!
My daughter always eats all of the marshmallows too:) These sound really yummy. I think they would be a big hit at my house.
Thanks, that's wonderful!
Keep it coming! :)
My husband loves Lucky Charms and overly sugared cookie/candy bars- so this will be perfect for him! I think I may try them out today!
I don't think there is enough sugar in this recipe!
Lucky Charms in a snack bar with sprinkles....I have to make these! There are not never enough marshmellows in the box - adding more is genius.
I'm not sure how I missed this post, but I love that the two of you are friends. That makes me happy. And so does spending money at Sephora. ;)
I made these without dipping them and they were delicious. Then i found strawberry marshmallows and used those to make another batch with trix. Yum, yum, yum!
Hahaha, oh how I love Kristan! Two of my fav bloggers in one place, yay. And I can't wait to try these awesome treats!!
