Who knew that a candy could have such a polarizing effect?
I didn't.
I mean, really any combination of sugar, high fructose corn syrup and artificial colors and flavorings are enough to make my dentist cringe, while making my taste buds giggle all at the same time...at least one would think.
Just the mention of Candy Corn in my house elicits either cheers or jeers.
Younger boys: "Woo Hoo, Candy Corn!!!!"
Older boys: "Eeew gross, those things are nasty".
Me: "Nasty? Really? It's just sugar."
Older Boys: "I don't know why I hate those things, but they're gross"
Younger Boys: "Woo Hoo, Candy Corn!"
The only other time I get such a divisive reaction is around Easter when the Peeps come out.
Personally, I am a Candy Corn lover...Peeps too! Maybe because they generally come out once a year and they seem sort of special. Except, have you seen those Halloween Peeps? What's up with that? That's like making a Halloween Cadbury Egg...it's just wrong!
Now, back to the Candy Corn.
I decided to make these after I saw them on Paula Deen's site. Really, can that woman do any wrong? Love her!
CANDY CORN KRISPIE TREATS
I adapted them a little because, on a side note, I was having a delicious Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks the other day and my little guy got a Krispie Treat and there were whole mini marshmallows in the krispies...genius! Thought I'd combine the 2 ideas.
I will tell you, though, these delicious treats have converted my older boys on the candy corn front. They didn't think they would like them and asked "Why I would ruin a perfectly good krispie treat with those things". However, after just one reluctant bite...and another and another, they were converted.
Older Boys: "These are delicious"
Me: "Yes. They. Are. Trust your mother every once in a while"
Older Boys: Combined groan
So, please make these, you and your kids will LOVE them...just don't tell your dentist ;)
1/2 stick butter (1/4 cup)
1 bag mini marshmallows (10 0z.) PLUS 1 1/2 cups reserved
1 teaspoon vanilla
7 cups Rice Krispies
1 cup coarsely chopped candy corn PLUS 1/4 cup reserved for garnish
a sheet of wax paper the size of your pan, one side sprayed with non-stick spray
Spray 9x9 square pan with non-stick spray
(you can make them in a 9x13, but I prefer a thicker krispie treat..your preference)
Melt butter over low.
When melted add bag of mini-marshmallows. Stir constantly until melted.
Once melted remove from heat and add candy corn and krispies. Stir together. Let cool for 2 minutes. Now add reserved mini marshmallows. Stir until combined.
Dump into your prepared pan.
Now take your sprayed wax paper (sprayed side down) and press firmly and evenly into the pan.
Press reserved candy corn into the top for garnish.
Let cool and then cut into squares.
All you haters out there, give them a try and let me know ;)

Just sugar? Gah! There's also HONEY! :) I keep a big candy jar full of these all fall, and love the idea of making rice krispy treats with them. Thanks for the recipe. Love your blog!
Those look delicious. If I could find candy corn that wasn't also processed in a facility with peanuts/nuts, I would totally make these!
Um, I don't think anyone in my house likes candy corn. They do look pretty in there!
I've added whole mini marshmallows before and enjoy the addition of even more marshmallowy goodness.

Not a fan of candy corn or Peeps, but I think they're so cute and I usually buy them every year. I taste one then into the trash they go. ha!
These do look really good though.
So funny all the replies, so split! Thanks for the comments and I seriously urge you guys who aren't fans to try these...i'm telling you I converted 14 & 16 year old boys over to the sweet side with these ~ And you all know how much teenagers like to admit when they are wrong ;)
