Hair...ugh.
My hair is the bane of my existence.
I was blessed with sort-of, but not-really curly hair.
It is thin-ish, but also coarse-ish. It doesn't have an identity.
It's every bad hair day you have ever experienced all rolled into one.
When I was young it was bad. Real bad. Growing up in the 80's and early 90's there were no Chi's. No one ever taught me how to do a blow-out...AND the dreaded banana clip was in style...or at least I thought it was.
C'mon ladies, you know you had one. I loved my banana clip, I wore it all the time, leading to many broken strands of hair and hair-aches....you know, when your hair is pulled back so tight that you look a little Asian. That was me.
My mother used to give me perms, when I was in, like, the 4th grade. I know she was trying to help, but looking back on those photos I really think that she was just punishing me for being sassy or telling a lie. I think it was her passive aggressive form of punishment....oh, that's mean.
I embraced the big bangs and the Aquanet, but I never looked cool. I loved Elizabeth Shue from the Adventures in Babysitting...do you remember that movie? As a kid I thought she was so cool...she said the "f" word. It was awesome. So, trying to get hair that looked like hers I got yet another perm and ended up with triangle hair. Again, NOT cute.
In the 90's I graduated to the scrunchie. I had one in every color, to match every outfit. Then it was enormous bows. I once had a bow that was almost the size of my head. So weird.
Then I had the "Rachael"
Then the "Posh"
Now I think that I have crossed over to the dark side and have "mom hair"....dun, dun dunnnnnn.
Does everyone wish they had someone else's hair or is it just me?
I have dreamt of having hair like Maria Shriver, but that was not in the cards.
I know you are wondering how I am going to segue this into talk about sugary treats...um, yeah, so am I.
So no clever transition, just a hopeless rant about my hair.
It was a bad hair day and it was on my mind.
Moving on...
Spongebob.
Hope the little guy had a great birthday.
And by the way...
My husband just read this post and said...."Really? Your hair is the bane of your existence? Not communism or genocide?"
This just proves that men do not understand...or that I am just not that deep ;)

Oh boy, can I relate! What I would have given for a flat iron in H.S.! I was recently in Hawaii and that place may be paradise for many, but for me it was the land of bad hair day EVERYDAY!!!
I made Spongebob cookies, but didn't dare attempt the body...Yours looks so cute!!!
Yes, Yes, and Yes, to all the memories, the banana clip, perms and triangle hair. Wish I had all the answers. I've been doing hair for over 20 years and not many people LOVE the hair they have, plain and simple guys have it so easy and when they go bald they have NOTHING to worry about!
Great job with the spongebob cupcakes, see he has no hair to deal with :) typical!
Oh gosh. The banana clip. I always had a headache when wearing one of those, and it was always popping open at the most inopportune times!
Cute Spongebob cake! Have you seen the bad-breath episode? Hilarious.
Yep, I watch SB.
I just love your posts - I can totally relate and know all about the bad hair days. I had the perms and when little even wore those horrible pink rollers that had a soft sponge on it that was suppose to make it not hurt -- which was a lie. they still hurt and I had to sleep on them!! Torture from my mother. :)
Love the cake!! Super cute.
wow to that cake - you are so talented!
"Don't F with the babysitter" ha ha! Loved that movie- seriously. I first learned about Haagen Daaz from that movie :-)
I lived with bad hair and put it up in a pony tail almost every day. Then it got to the point where some days I wouldn't even care and it would end up in a bun. eek. So i got it all chopped off on Friday and it feels so good!
Yep, I sported the banana clip, scrunchies and everything else you mentioned, HA!
Love, Spongebob you did a fantastic job!
P.S. Get a hat, LOL ~ works for me!
What a cute cupcake cake! Love!!
Great post, fashion is entertainment.
Sponge Bob is too cute.
Mimi
ha, you crack me up!! I most certainly had a scrunchy in every color, and I was a big fan of the "side pony". You know, the pony tail that you awkardly put on the side of your head, right above your ear! WTF was I thinking! I have major Kate Beckensale hair envy! The cupcake cake looks absolutely amazing!
While I never rocked the side pony, I did have a banana clip, but my worst hair sin? Bangs. On a girl with hair as curly and frizzy as mine, you can just imagine the horror!
All of those terrible hair memories, just make us appreciate our hair (and straighteners) that much more! haha
Your spongebob cake is AWESOME!!! I love it!

Cute cake!!
Your cupcake cake looks awesome!
I just watched Adventures in Babysitting last night for the first time! And I was noticing all the 80's styles and laughing.
I understand about your hair. I have a curly hair and when I was a kid my mom did NOT know how to style it, so she brushed the curls out into frizzy kinks. In every picture from childhood I look like a frazzled mess!
Nowadays, if it wasn't for a hair dryer, round brush, and chi I don't think I would be able to go out in public :)
I love your post, my hair is a disaster!!! I used the banana for so long!! The Spongebob cupcakes is awesome! you are so talented , I can't work with cupcakes and do something. you should do a tutorial someday because I would love to learn.
That cake is SO cute! It's perfect!
I have to say...and I feel pretty confident that I am not alone in this... that I think the only way this post could be better was if there was a photo of each corresponding hair style that was talked about! Its all about visuals!! LOL Men will never understand, but just as a good cut and style can make you feel like the hottest woman on the block so can a bad hair day just give you that all day funk that you can't shake no matter how hard you try!
Oh and sponge Bob looked Awesome! Ur my hero!
Pink Little Cake I am right there with you... I think she should teach a tutorial because I have no clue how she does it but I am sooooo jealous!!
You did a fantastic job! It looks fantastic :)
LOL LOL LOL...ahh yes the banana clip! We must be the same age!. Adorable cake
Thanks everybody for the great comments!
And btw, I will never post pictures of my middle school hair disaster days. The only way that would happen is is I am drunk blogging (don't know if that's a real thing), but since I am not a big drinker that will most likely not happen ;)
As for the tutorial on cupcake cakes, that's more of a possibility!
I love your cake and your blog is so much fun! Ah, yes, the banana clip...it was high class, right? lol. I want hair like Catherine Zeta Jones. Miracles happen, don't they?
Oh men...i mean, we can only care about more IMPORTANT things if we look good enough to face the world. I mean, we have to feel good first...no? :) Gorgeous cake though Spongebob isn't quite gorgeous but cute instead.
I will gladly come cook dinner if you promise that after dinner you will give me a cupcake cake frosting class!!
My nephew would LOVE this!
So cute!! I have spongebob cupcakes and cookies to do at the end of the month. So nervous!
I am sooooo with you on this post. It always amazes me how we can be judged simply from the perceptions on our blogs or online. I so had my banana clips and man didnt I think they were cool? I loved the honesty in this post. I have so many shortcomings as a mommy. I am glad to know I am not alone. :) Thank you for being brave enough to make me feel ok!
Well said. :)
Ps. I am planning to make some of the hot cocoa sticks- darling!
Your Sponge Bob is perfect!!! Wow!
I have CURLY, curly hair...my hairdresser just told me this week that the texture is "unique." (I think that was a vague insult.) I fought it for years...and I LOVED Elizabeth Shue, too! She was cool and her hair was poofy like mine. Well, hers looked good! ;)
Thanks for the hair memories!!!
Amen! I'm right there with you sista ont he hair issue and a lot of other issues, too, except maybe the word one. I like words in general and can't think of one I don't like.
~ingrid
Cute cake, but I still use huge bows every day... I don't think it's weird. Granted, I am stilla teen, so it doesn't look as strange as it would on an adult, but...:(
