I will preface this entire message with: I love my husband. He is a great father, partner and best friend.
BUT he is addicted to craigslist.
BUT he is addicted to craigslist.
I don't know how to make it stop.
For the 3 of you out there who are unaware of what craigslist is...it's basically an online garage sale, except there really is no limit to what you can sell: junk, valuables, jobs, personal services (if you catch my drift) etc.
Well, my husband is addicted..not to the, a-hem, personal services, but to cheap and/or free stuff.
They say one man's junk is another man's treasure. My husband is the "another" man.
He finds all sorts of free/cheap "treasures" that now reside in our basement or my the side or our house.
Who knew that we needed multiple grills, or loads of bricks, or slightly used televisions?
Well, I certainly didn't.
I understand that the items that hubby rescues are brought to our loving home with all the best intentions, but somethings gotta give!
If craigslist was around before we got married I might have gotten a glimpse of my husband's inner-hoarder. We certainly could have worked a clause into the vows..maybe something like this:

If craigslist was around before we got married I might have gotten a glimpse of my husband's inner-hoarder. We certainly could have worked a clause into the vows..maybe something like this:
"I promise to love, honor and cherish you. And visit craigslist only once a month."
Right? That's fair.
SO yes, it's become an issue. Not a serious one, but certainly one that needs to be handled before I find my husband buried under all his free craigslist junk scraping the mold of last March's cauliflower claiming it can still be eaten. It's a fine line folks.
Until I can get the cajones to stage an intervention, I will bury my angst in sugar.
That's normal, right?
Keeping with the theme of "trashy" here's a cereal treat that is so bad it's good.
Enjoy!
Cinnamon Toast Crunch Krispies
4 cups Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal
2 cups Rice Krispies
1 10.5 oz. bag mini marshmallows + 2 cups mini marshmallows reserved
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup white chocolate ( or white almond bark) melted
In large pot over low heat melt butter.
When melted add the 10.5 oz bag marshmallows. Continue cooking and stirring until melted.
Remove from heat.
Stir in both cereals and reserved 2 cups marshmallows.
Spread in prepared pan and with waxed paper press down evenly.
Drizzle melted white chocolate over top.
I use a ziplock bag to drizzle...

Now that looks GOOD!
So pretty and delicious! I loved eating cinnamon toast crunch when I was little, now I don't eat cereal for breakfast at all but I still love eating it. I never would have thought of doing that. :)
My husband is not that bad but we have "the penny saver" here which is like craigs list printed out and I get multipul texts a day about all the goodies he has found that he wants and that he is going to get and I cringe I am sure the same way that you do! When I ask the question "ok so where are you gonna put that?" and he looks at me like I just said I had the swine flu you know it is bad! In his head he thinks "what do you mean? We will MAKE room!" notice the WE... yes even though I do not want it I still have to help find a home for it! Like the extra washer and dryer in my entry way that need to be sold but he is "going to get to it" sure sure! Yummy treats though! They look great!
Well, these goodies should definitely bring you comfort:)
Hopefully you can put the brakes on Craigslist! GOOD LUCK!
these look divine! the cereal is my kids' favorite so i know they'll love this!!!
Craigslist can be a dangerous dangerous thing. It's like me and a used bookstore. Not compatible. Or too compatible. As the case may be.
I love cinnamon toast crunch cereal...mega love. So I obviously have to try these!
Too funny! My husband was addicted to e.bay, buying toys and planes from his childhood. I actually did have to intervene after he had taken over every closet in our home..lol
Your treat looks really yummy..krispie treats taken up a few notches for sure:)
These look amazing!! I love cinnamon toast rrunch cereal and marshmallows so, it's absolutly winner!
First off, I'd really love one, or seventeen, of these treats. They look super fabulous.
Secondly, I'm so sorry to hear about the craigslist addiction. I've only used Craigslist once (to sell a car) but I think I'd be afraid to get free stuff from people. I'd always be expecting one of them to be the next Craigslist Killer.
they look like they would be ooey-gooey-GOOD!
Oh My!!! I had a heck of a day and I need these now. But I don't have any of the items. :(
That is my luck today, find yummy ideas on blogs and can't make a single one.
stage an intervention! LOL, these are gorgeous
The layer of marshmallows looks amazing!
How'm I supposed to stay on a diet when you show me stuff like this??? I gained two pounds just READING about it! Yikes!
--I'm still going to make some!
Cinnamon Toast Crunch was my all-time favorite cereal when I was a kid...I don't care if these are trashy, they look amazing!
Looks great but we don't get cinnamon toast cereal here is Australia.
I do feel your pain. In our house we have come to a kind of mutual understanding where I ignore his hoarding of books, dvds, cd's and other 'stuff' and he pays no attention to the masses of cake decorating equipment and party table styling must have items I collect.
Sorry to hear that. These little goodies are sure to lift up your spirits! They look delicious. I'm guessing Cinnamon Chex would be good in these too! Mmmm....
Blessings...
Haha...my husband is addicted to Craigslist too, so I feel your pain. We are trying to work on it though. This pan of treats looks amazing, by the way. I loved Cinammon Toast Crunch growing up, so these are a perfect nostalgia treat.
And...recipe has been SAVED!! OMG, this looks amazing! Why do I never think of these things?! :)
This looks delicious! I think your husband could be my best friend.I love free stuff that people don't want any more.I alway find some good use for it ... or I think one day I will.
Ohhhh I would be addicted to that.
Mmm! What a great idea. I'm thinking of all the different cereals that would be awesome transformed into rice krispie treats!
This is a fabulous idea! I'm hugely addicted to Cinnamon Toast Crunch, no milk though, just straight out of the box. Can't wait to try these!!
I'm in love! These look absolutely perfect.
So....will I be seeing you guys on that Hoarders show anytime soon? LOL, just kidding of course. I used to be addicted to ebay for dishes but was able to stop the habit in time. You might want to break his computer.
These bars would turn you into an instant jukie, no problem.
These look great, cinnamon toast crunch is one of my favorite cereals!
These look perfectly delicious. You might try the bring something new home and something old has to go approach(it works with clothes).

it's easy to get addicted to things like craigslist. me? i'm more apt to become addicted to easy, quick, and delightful little treats like this. a better use for cinnamon toast crunch, i couldn't tell ya. :)
lol, can I tell you I "know" what craigslist is but have never actually been there. I'm not into my own junk let alone someone else's even if it is free. :)What I am into is delish treats like this it's. It's actually kinda like one I make...mine is more like a s'more. Check it out, it was before you may have visited.

holy snap. i LOVE cinnamon toast crunch, must make these asap.
Oh wow. I need one of these right now! Craigslist can get pretty addictive, I've gotta say...I spent weeks looking for an apt when I lived in ny--and then got sidetracked by all the junk people were giving away!
Your bars look...heavenly!!
Heheh I love how you tied the recipe into the story ;) I'm one who would actually LOVE to use Craigslist, but here in Bombay, it's pretty slow!
I can totally relate :-)
I started reading the first line of your post aloud and my husband started laughing and came ocer to sit by me. He, too, is addicted to Craisglist. I'm talking several times a day! Only he's not bring free junk home, he's buying epensive tools that he gets a "good deal" on. help!
I say we stage an intervention. ha ha!
My husband just sent my an article on someone who "traded" his way through Craig's List. I think he started with a Pez dispenser and 50 trades and 5 years later, ended up with a Porsche. Something like that. Anyhoo...I'm going to make him these bars, hoping that the sugar coma makes him forget abut that article.
PS...who is that naked man in the top comment? ;)
