Fancy Shmancy Krispies

I am not a fancy person.
We don't sit on upholstered dining chairs for three course meals.
We don't use cloth napkins..unless someone else is doing the laundry.
We are paper napkin folks.  Paper napkins and 30 minute meals.
That's us.
I understand, though, that "fancy" is a fairly relative adjective.
Ask me to dress fancy and I will put on my dark wash jeans and some earrings.
Where-as I am sure for some of you "pulled-together" ladies, my fancy is your casual.
I will spare you the gory details of my casual...it's not cute.

So this dessert is MY version of fancy.
Only here will the word fancy and krispie treat be used in the same sentence.
That's me.  Elastic pants and all.
Browned Butter Pumpkin Spice Krispie Treats

1/4 cup salted butter
1 (10.5) oz bag mini marshmallows
6 cups Rice Krispie cereal
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

Spray 9x9 pan with non-stick spray.
Over med-low heat melt your butter.
Once your butter is melted, continue to cook until butter starts to brown.
It will turn a golden brown color and develop a nutty aroma.
Be careful not to burn.  Once the butter begins to brown it can burn quickly.
Stir up any brown bits.
Add the marshmallows and pumpkin pie spice.
Stir until marshmallows are melted.
Remove from heat and stir in rice krispies.

When mixed spread the krispie mixture in your prepared pan.
Spray a sheet of wax paper or parchment with non-stick spray and gently press the krispies down evenly.
Let cool for 30 minutes and then cut into squares.
-----------------------------------------------

So, I couldn't just let them be...you know how I am.
I had to make them a little cute.
So, I cut them out using a pumpkin cookie cutter.
And how sad...the scraps left over.
I should eat them...waste not, right?
I dipped the top into some orange candy melts and added some eyes and a mouth with icing.
I just happened to have some black sugar sprinkles in the pantry...so, why not...sprinkle eyes!
I will tell you that the browned butter totally makes a difference.  A yummy difference.  It's worth the extra 5 minutes.  Plus, it makes them fancy.
And we could all use a bit of fancy every now and then.

Aww, how cute! Thanks for sharing your idea. Also, do you have any good tips on how to clean the pan after making these rice krispies? I always find the pan sooo hard to clean, it takes forever! Thank you. :)

Thanks Esther ~
I use non-stick spray for the pan, but for the pot I use HOT HOT water and it works great for me. Oh, and soap, of course :)

I loove the way you think, lady! Think I'll make mine just browned butter krispies though...I'm the only "foodie" who doesn't like pumpkin, I think.

Oh, and your fancy is totally my fancy, too. Dark wash jeans totally count if you wear them with heels. Right? Right!

Ooooh! These look so fab!

And I am your kind of fancy. Dressing up kills me. :)

They're very cute! Kids would love to help with these.

Adorably YUM! :-)

What did you put on the pumpkin before sprinkling the sprinkles to make the face? Just regular frosting in a tube perhaps?

An awesome display of fanciness! I am however shocked to hear that putting on darker jeans and earrings isn't considered fancy everywhere :/ I wonder if I am ever truly fancy now :P

You are too funny! I am not fancy either. My idea of fancy dressing is the same as yours..lol

I do have to say that those are definitely pretty fancy krispie treats. You are so creative to have thought to put pumpkin spice in them. Great fall idea:)

Those are so cute!! Perfect for halloween/fall too. I'm probably the opposite of you. I always wear jewelrey and heels with skinny jeans. But even my casual jeans with flip flops looks kinda fancy sometimes(:

These look yummy. I've made them heart shaped for Valentine's Day. And the "scraps" can be reheated in the microwave to create more.

I've been meaning to make these...saw something similar on Smitten Kitchen a while back and saved it. You've made them into neat Halloween treats....so cute!

I say there is always a time and a place for elastic pants. And rice krispies treats. Sometimes those times and places happen to be all the time everywhere. Except maybe for dinner at a multi-starred restaurant.

I love that these are pumpkin-spiced! How cute.

Ha! We must have been on the same wave length yesterday. You said you weren't fancy shmancy and I said in my blog post that I'm not always cutesy wootsey/perfect. lol (These ARE cutesy wootsey, but in the good way.) :)

What a great idea! Your fancy sounds like my fancy. And I LOVE my elastic pants...especially around this time of year. Thanks for sharing all your good ideas.

I've never made rice krispies with brown butter but that sounds delicious! Cutting them out in the shape of pumpkin is even cuter! Do you cut them out while the mixture is wet or wait for it to dry?

I never would have thought to put spices, what a grand idea!

It is like you know what I want to make sometimes! I just made a trip over to London and I found Rice Krispies there. I bought two family sized boxes and carted them back over to the Netherlands so that I could make some Rice Krispy Treats (don't even get me started on what they don't have here). Now these are definitely fancy shmancy and I just might put on dark washed jeans and earings to eat them :)

Question:

When I eat these, can I wear an ascot and hold my pinky in the air?

I am assuming that will be not only totally fine, but expected.

Thanks for another Krispie recipe!! I am a firm believer that one can never have too many. YUM!!! :)
