Sugar Cookie Truffles

Hope everyone had a festive holiday!
Whatcha doing for New Years Eve?
We usually spend the evening hanging out with friends at home in happy pants, eating and being comfortable.
We aren't big fancy party go-ers.
To get me in heels and pantyhose there has to be something pretty special happening.
Speaking of pantyhose...do people still wear those?
Honestly, there are many NYE's where we are in bed long before Dick Clark's Eve starts rockin'.
There are times that I imagine about how exciting it would be to get dressed up in a sparkly dress and hit the proverbial town with the husband.
Then reality sets in a little...
1)  Do I really want to spend money on a dress that I most likely will never wear again?  Reason for having to buy a new dress...food blogging.  None of my old sparkly dresses will fit ~ bringing me to the ubiquitous New Years Resolution...)
2)  Do I feel like standing up all night mingling, sucking in my stomach, ultimately giving me a sore back due to my lack of core muscle strength?
3)  How about dropping hundreds of dollars on an overpriced "New Years Eve Menu" and $10 cocktails when there is a perfectly good box of wine and wienies in a blanket at home waiting for me?
4)  And honestly, not to come off as anti-social...I'm really not...but when I am uncomfortable, I'm not that nice.  Which leads me to the loads of pleasant conversation and inevitable awkward moments that come hand-in-hand with fancy cocktail parties.

So, for all of you out there who get your fancy on NYE, God Bless...deep down I am really envious of you..I just don't have it in me :)
I will be playing it low-key with some friends in my 2% spandex jeans eating queso dip from a crock pot.

If you guys do the neighborhood party thing too, here are some fun balls truffles to add to your dessert platter.
They're easy...I promise.  But they require the use of the food processor.
Don't groan, it'll just take a second with the hard-to-clean appliance to get the results you need.
And since the recipe starts with pre-made cookie dough, you owe me a round with the food processor.
Got this recipe out of one of those crack-like holiday food magazines that are down the check-out aisle of the supermarket.
You know the ones...right next to The Enquirer that you are just "glancing" at.
adapted from Nestle
1 16 oz. package of sugar cookie dough
1.5 oz room temp cream cheese
4 oz white melting chocolate OR 1 cup white chips
1 T. shortening
sprinkles for garnish
Bake cookies according to package directions...BUT baking until cookies are crisp, but NOT burned.
The original recipe says to bake at 325, but I baked at 350 for a few extra minutes and got good results.
Cool cookies completely on wire rack before moving on to the next step.
Line baking sheet with wax paper or silicon baking mat.
Crumble the cookies into the food processor.  Process until the cookies are a fine crumb.
Add the cream cheese and process until the mixture starts to hold together.
Don't worry it won't be too sticky.

Roll mixture into 1" balls placing on prepared baking sheet and chill in refrigerator for 30 minutes to an hour.
* or freeze for 10-15 minutes.
Melt white chocolate and shortening on medium power in 30 second intervals until just melted, stirring well after each interval.
Dip each ball into white chocolate with a fork tapping off the excess.  Return to baking sheet to set.  Sprinkle with sprinkles while white chocolate is still wet.
Let set and enjoy!
What are your plans for the 2011 ring-in?  Fancy or casual?

My friends and I are doing the at-home NYE party thang for a lot of these reasons. They think it's for me the money. For me, it's the new sparkly uncomfortable dress thing. Having to buy one is a little bit too much reality that I'm not ready to handle. Yet. These truffles look yummy delish. Want. Need. Happy New Year!

These sound so good, right up my alley! I even have homemade, plain sugar cookies in the freezer, cream cheese in the fridge and white almond bark in the pantry:) Thank you for the great recipe! HAPPY NEW YEAR! (I may be in my p.j.'s early on NYE:))
I look forward to your blog in 2011!

Totally casual- I am with you all the way on staying home. I am too lazy to get dressed up, and I hate pantyhose!!

Super cute! I have a loarge amount of unfrosted gingerbread cookies...I think I am going to try and gigerbread variation! Yum!!

I always found food processors hard to clean too! I got one as a wedding present thought, and it came with a special spatula that has groves here and there and fits perfectly in the hard to clean out areas. I was just so impressed :) haha

What a great recipe. I never really thought about a how a simple package of cookies could end up looking like these creative treats. Thanks for sharing.

This is similar to another recipe that is making the rouns this year. Use a package of Oreo cookies, cream cheese and dip into melted chocolate

This look SOOO yummy!!

I'd much rather stay home and eat these than go out and suck my gut in all night.

Also, you had me at wienies in a blanket. But you knew that, didn't you ;)

Happy New Year Shelly!!

Love this idea! We are very casual ringing in the new year...that is if we even stay up that late. My kids are getting older and are wanting that new year's experience, so I might plan something fun for them. Happy New Year!!!!

Lorraine said...

Great recipe! They sound very yummy, liking that they are easy too:)

We are not fancy, night-out people either; though, maybe when the kids get a little older we will be. We stay home and a bunch of family members come over and we eat and play games. I love it and look forward to it all year.

Wishing you and your family a very happy and healthy new year!

Happy New Year! Hope you have another great year of baking! I usually camp at home and watch movies, so its casual I guess. :)

Oh my gosh yum(: I've never heard of these before, they look delicious!

Those look YUMMY!! I might try them with frosting rather than cream cheese - just not a fan, dd hates it and it isn't SWEET enough for me.
Casual partiers here. Usually having others to our house so we don't have to drive on the road with the drunks. This year we may go party with some others...but very casual.
Panty hose...that is a puzzler. I am pretty sure no one but grandma wears em anymore but I would feel weird without them. :S

We're always casual too. Much more fun that way. Good friends, comfy clothes, and fattening food make for a good party every time.

For a minute there I thought I was reading a post about myself. I am such a homebody it isn't even funny. Rather just stay in and be safe.

AS for these little guys. Another great way to jazz up some sugar cookies. Have to love that!

Have a great New Years!

I've made the oreo truffles before, and this sounds just as good! Thanks for the idea! Happy New Year! We're staying in with some friends too, for most of all of the reasons you mentioned!

Girl..you and me could be very good friends! Screw getting all fancied up. Totally overrated. The sucking in the stomach thing is something I have mastered over the years..but it still sucks and my back aches when it is all said and done. So its New Years Eve and I am here on my computer with slippers,my husbands sweatshirt, my hair up in a pony tail. No fancy dress, no heels(I like to call them *UCK me pumps)No make up. No fake smile. This is a good as it gets. Now lets see if I can even make it till midnight! Doubt it!
Happy new year, my casual, down to earth friend!!!!

These are so cute..I wanna make these and soon!

Holy crud! I haven't seen these with cookies and cream cheese before. I will be making these balls of goodness very soon. How delicious sounding!!!

I'm with you on the NYE thing. I would love to think I'm hip and social and would even put on a sparkly dress but... here I sit in pajama pants and getting ready to play Ker Plunk with my kiddos. =o)

You and I are a lot alike when it comes to New Years Eve. I am all about being comfortable...and although it might sound fun to go out in a little black dress, I would much prefer to curl up with a cup of tea and some of these cookie truffles! Thank you for sharing with me all that you do. I wish you many blessings and much joy in the New Year!

Mmmm...those look good.

We always do the casual thing. My husband is 1 of 11 kids, so they've had an annual tradition of getting the siblings/spouses together on NYE for a white elephant gift exchange, food, drink, conversation, and laughs.

Happy New Year to you!

Putting a whole bunch of these in my face while wearing happy pants sounds like a perfect NYE to me. Also, I went to bed at 11:20 this year. I tried, really I did.

Happy New Year, my friend!

Well, those just look divine. I think I'd skip the fancy party too if it meant staying home shoving those little things in my face all night!

Oh man, these look like total sugar overload! I bet my hubby would love them though, he's a big sugar cookie fan!

I made these last weekend, they were a hit. And I took half of them and added some cinnamon and crushed pecans then topped them with cinnamon and sugar- snicker doodle cookie truffles!

Niiice! Very nice!

I pretty much feel the same way you do about NYE parties. The thing I find most offensive is the new dress purchase. You cleaned out your pantry recently well I cleaned out my closet. A closet full of gorgeous size 0 & 2 shirts, pants, short skirts, & dresses. These weren't from when I was a teenager. These were from just 2 1/2 years ago. :( My poor honey thought he had a skinny girl. I've come to the realization that I'm not getting back into them so long as I'm baking and blogging.

I don't bake a whole lot, & am confused- 1.5 oz cream cheese? That doesn't seem like much.... did I read that wrong?
