Pet peeve #37: Luggage when you get home from vacation.
I know, right?
Those of you who are super organized clutter-busters, there will be no need for you to read on...just skip ahead to the yummy dessert that I made last week.
BUT for the rest of us regular people I know you know what I am talking about...
the luggage that sits in your bedroom for weeks days after your get-away.
The luggage that haunts you 6 days after you get back from vacation reminding you, not only of the fabulous time you had, but of the fact that you are lazy-ass who keeps removing only the essentials.
See, you're not alone.
The luggage that you lie to telling it you will unload it in "a little bit". The luggage that you decide to unload only when you realize you are out of clean underwear. The luggage that holds onto dreams of flip flops and sunscreen when you are now currently dressed in sweats and wool socks.
The luggage that holds the mystery to that strange "smell".
Now, I will say that I have gotten WAY better about this. Actually, I might be cured...as long as cured means that I get it unloaded in the "grace period"...that is 2 days. 2 days, people...grace period.
BUT the reason that I write this is because my husband has just returned from a trip..albeit business, but trip, nonetheless and he is THE WORST offender of said *luggage disorder*. That red canvas bag will sit there until I can't physically trip over it another time...until he has exhausted all the socks in the house...and THEN it will sit there EMPTY.
EMPTY.
Laziness personified.
But here's where I realize that I am ultimately the problem...I always end up putting it away.
He wins. Everytime.
So, here's my plan y'all.
It's an experiment of sorts.
Let's see how long the empty-ish luggage will sit and taunt me.
It's principle people. Pah-RIN-cee-PAL.
Anybody want to take bets?
I give it 2 weeks ;)
So, here was another experiment...I wanted to try and make homemade Kit-Kats.
Now, c'mon, how good are Kit-Kats?
ALMOST as good as Twix...yummm, now there's one that I will have to try.
But for the time being a girlfriend gave me a recipe for homemade Kit-Kats. I will say that these are really yummy...BUT they aren't really like Kit-Kats...the thing is, I couldn't come up with another name for them. I had a lapse in creativity, so we'll just go with:
Super Yummy Pseudo-Kit Kat
recipe from the Bonfanti kitchen
Here's what you'll need:
2 cups graham crackers (crushed)
1 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup milk
Box of Club Crackers
Topping:
1/2 cup chocolate chips
*1/2 cup butterscotch chips
2/3 cup peanut butter chips
*We are not butterscotch people here, so I used extra chocolate chips, but use your preference.
Directions:
Bring butter, sugars and milk to a boil.
Add crushed graham crackers
Boil for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove from heat and let sit for 5 minutes.
While caramel mix is cooling, spray 9x13 lightly with cooking spray, or lightly grease with butter.
Line bottom of the pan with Club Crackers.
Pour half of the boiled mixture
over crackers and then follow with another layer of crackers, then the remaining portion of
the mixture, and on top place the third layer of club crackers.
For the topping ~
Melt all the chips together either in microwave or double boiler and spread over the final layer of Club Crackers.
Let this cool completely before cutting.
(I found it took a good 3 hours for it to cool completely, so give yourself enough time!)
I'll keep you guys posted on Mission: Empty Luggage ;)

They look delicious, I love kit kats!
I give the suitcase experiment....10 days.
There was actually an Everybody Loves Raymond episode about this exact offense. It was hilarious. Also, these look freaking delicious. I'm all about trying to make homemade candy bars at home. I must try this soon.
The episode of Everybody Loves Raymond that Sara Tea mentioned instantly came to mind when I read your luggage story! It was so funny! There was a piece of cheese in the luggage :D
Homemade Kit Kats look too dangerous for me to make, for the same reason I refuse to make the homemade Twix--I will EAT THEM ALL.
LOL! I thought about the same "Raymond" episode. It is a definate issue at my house too!
Wow those look so fabulous!
Yum! I've gotta try these! I love how you kinda swirled the topping!
YUM-O!! Love me some kit kats!! Thanks for sharing!
Mmmm! I don't know if I would make it through 3 hours of cooling time before taste-testing these!
This luggage story is my life as well! And I have to immediate I am completely guilty of this myself. My husband and I went to New Orleans last weekend, returned on Monday and my luggage sat on the floor waiting to be unpacked until Friday...so 4 days of sitting, tripping, and pulling the needed garments out until I finally decided to properly put it away yesterday! Glad to know there are other people out there that have the same luggage stories! Those kit kats look amazing!
They sure look good...crunchy, chewy, chocolatey!!!
An episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond", on this very luggage subject, was just on tonight...a universal problem! :)
I am going to have to make this.... I LOVE Kit Kats!!
These look so good.

OH wow. My favorite thing in the whole world is caramel and chocolate together (just ask the girl scouts about my samoas addiction) This looks excellent!
Hehe you made me laugh with mission empty luggage! Hope you win this time!!
Your kit kat looks so good, like a peanut buttery goodness kit kat yumm!!

what a neat recipe! and of course, as always, i love your blogging/writing:) so funny, and you say what we're all thinking;)
Oh now those look so stinkin' yummy!!! And as for the luggage thing, my hubby gets me craz, but for just the opposite reason. We walk in the door and he immediatly, and I do mean immediatly opens the suit cases and starts the laundry. Now I'm not complaining about the help, who doesn't want a hubby that does the laundry? BUT he gets so obsesive about getting the luggage unpacked, that we end up with all the suitcases open in the living room. But I let him go ahead and do it, if I complained he would end up saying, 'okay then I'll just do mine and you can take care of the rest'
If it is left to me, I'd get unpacked during that 'grace period'
LOL, I feel ya! That;s my honey with everything and two out of three of my children. If they wait long enough I will take care of everything! :( Grrrr! Good luck with your mission and pass me some of your kitkats! They actually look and sound waaaay better than the originals!

So funny! Luggage sucks;)
These bars however look delish!
These look scrumptious!
My husband go NUTS over kitkats. he gave up chocolate for lent so I may have to make these on Easter Sunday for him because they look awesome.
Lol I just tripped over my husbands empty luggage. If he can take the clothes out why can't he put the empty bag away? Just finish something please!
Kit Kats look fantastic.
mimi
Oh, man...those look delicious!
I was thinking of that Everybody Loves Raymond episode, too! :)
My kids would love me forever if I made these! Delicious!
Sounds like me after I got back from DC! ha! I try to unpack things when my husband does because he motivates me but I just couldn't unpack the sweaters because I had no use for them her. I kicked that stupid suitcase for a week before I finally unpacked completely. The sweaters still might be piled up on the chair though :-)
Yummy bars!
My hubs loves kit kats-especially frozen. I will have to give these a try!
These look a whoooole lot like something I'll be writing about in the next couple weeks. This is getting crazy! We need to capitalize on our brain-sharing, seriously. Ha! Love the swirl on the chocolate--so beautiful!
ahhh hell..we should just leave the suitcase packed till the next vacation!
I thought about the same "Raymond" episode. LOL! Lovin the Kit kats ;)
Oh boy, I am addicted just by looking at these! You have the best desserts.
I am SO that person! Seriously! I never unpack my luggage! Haha!
I love the kit kats! SO amazing!
mmmm pseudo kit kats :P
I am loving these Kit Kats but I'm confused. You have peanut butter listed in the ingredients, but not mentioned anywhere in the instructions. Am I having a blonde moment or is peanut butter not in it?
i made these bars once. i also ate these bars once. yeah, that means in one sitting--talk about addictive. :)
Queen ~ (ha! how funny is that?!)
anyway, good call! I meant to type peanut butter CHIPS! Duh, although, I am sure that if you just mixed in pb to the chips it would be good too, it might just stay a bit softer!
Thanks for spotting that!
Your hubby sounds EXACTLY like mine! Although I haven't had the patience to actually test out how long the empty suitcase would sit there but I would guess more than a week. I'm the type that NEEDS to empty my suitcase and put it away about an hour after I get home!
I don't know how I missed this post!!! I love Kit Kats so this looks amazing to me. I wish I had more time to experiment with fun stuff. You rock.
I'm all about trying to make homemade candy bars at home. I must try this soon.
