Girls! Girls! Girls!

And I don't mean in the Motley Crue sort of way.
I mean sweet little girls who love all things pink and pretty.
Little girls who squeal with excitement.
Little girls who have dolls and want to feed them and dress them up.
I think about all these things very longingly.
You see, I have boys.  All boys.  4 of them.
There are no girly things in my house.  No dolls (unless GI Joe qualifies).
No pink.  No ruffles.  No tea parties.
I made these tea cup cupcakes for a sweet neighbor a few weeks ago.  Her daughter is in my 1st grader's class and she was having a tea party for her birthday.  I sigh.
The girls all brought their dolls...sigh sigh.
And ate off of good china.  Sigh sigh sigh.
They had tea sandwiches cut in the shapes of hearts and wore pretty party dresses.
Don't get me wrong, I love my boys and we have loads of rough and tumble fun.  But I will tell you, there is nothing dainty about them.  It is all army men, fart jokes and paintball around here.
My husband got me a girl dog as a consolation prize, and while I love her she might as well be a boy.

The days of dreaming about mommy/daughter mani/pedi's has ceased and I have come to terms with being the only girl in the house.
So, in the meantime I will live vicariously through my friends and their girls...that is until they hit puberty.
From what I hear (and lived) I will be fine skipping that part :)
All the teacups, saucers and spoons are made from marshmallow fondant and I used my Americolor Gourmet Food Markers for the flowers.
These food markers are the only ones, in my book.  If you use food markers, or plan on using them, Americolor is the brand to buy.  They write perfect and have great color.

Have a Happy Wednesday!

It is my fear that I will have all boys... but you know what? I can do what you do and just live vicariously through my friends and do fun girly things! These cupcakes are adorable. I think you should treat yourself to a mani/pedi!

These are so pretty! I feel your pain...It's all Thomas Trains and Lightning McQueen in my house. Thankfully I have 2 nieces that I make girly things for...

My hope is to have all boys. Being a girl, I know how much drama girls can be. We'll see what happens though...

My son's wife is having our first grandchild this summer - a girl! This is such a cute idea - for a future tea party perhaps. You come up with such clever and unique ideas!

I come from a family of 4 girls, and growing up, even our dog and two cats were female. Let me tell you, there are times when I feel bad for my dad. Like you said, you won't mind just having boys once they hit the teenage years.

These might be the sweetest cupcakes I've ever seen. They are adorable, and I'm sure the girls went crazy for them!

As the mother of two (grown) boys, I found solace in my friends girls but when I hit 40 I decided not to wait for daughter in laws and granddaughters and just every now and then do the frilly pink stuff for myself. I reclaimed pink as my color and invited the boys to join me in the fun. sometimes they did, sometimes they didn't. but in the process they became more aware of their "femimine" side and it defused and defemenized some activities for them.

beautiful cupcakes by the way!

Sigh. Yes, I'm sighing right along with you at the girlie things...especially these cupcakes!!!

Totally agree with you on the AmeriColor pens...they are the best!

Did you shape your fondant and let it sit out before using the pens? I'm working up my nerve to make some! :)

cookies and cups said...

Bridget - yes, I let the tea cups sit out for a day and firm up before I used the markers. You could absolutely wait longer, or even do it right away, but I was scared to handle them too much when they were soft.

SO CUTE!! I love the teacups and I can't believe you had the patience to make all of them! You know... there's websites where you can buy things like that... :) Though, that would take all the fun out of it right?

That is soooo cute. Love the tea cups. My friend is making her daughter a Princess Castle Cake for her birthday in a couple weeks. Maybe we should add some fondant tea cups for the "princesses" in the castle :o) Just lovely!

I absolutely love your cupcakes! simply adorable.
May i ask what kind of cream is used for piping the top of the cupcakes? thanks much! :)

They are sweet and cute until about 5 then it's all downhill. Remember? Think back...

I have one girl and twin boys. Boys are much easier and waaaaay cheaper! Oh, yeah and girls love their daddies more than their mommies. Wanna know why? 'Cause Mommy is competition! :)

The little tea cups are too sweet!

Hi Ellice, I used vanilla buttercream on top of the cupcakes and the tea cup is made from fondant.
I have the buttercream recipe I use posted under the "recipe" tab, if you're interested!
Thanks for all the great comments!
