Candy Shopping and some left over Easter candy

So, let me ask you a question...
While waiting in line to pay for items at any given retail store do you:
A) Read the tabloids and realize that it's been your turn for 2 minutes while people cough and make strange throaty noises behind you to get your attention?
B)  Lurk behind the person in front of you until they have paid and then try to push them out while they are frantically trying to get their wallet back into their purse/pocket?
C) Argue with the sales clerk over your expired $0.75 off coupon for toilet paper?
D) Get into a lengthy conversation with your neighbor who is checking out 2 rows down about what time T-ball practice is all while the sales clerk is waiting for payment?
E) Write a check!?!?!
or F) Wait patiently until your turn giving the person in front of you ample "breathing room" and then move along expeditiously?
Now, if you have answered anything except for "F", I am sorry, but things are not good between us.
I will say, however, the worst answer to this simple multiple choice is without a doubt "B".
Yesterday at Target I encountered a "B".
Oh, man...seriously, lady, personal space.
Get to know it.
She was literally all up in my bidness while I was paying and kept trying to squeeze me out while I was in frantic put-credit-card-away mode.
Getting your credit card back into your wallet and getting out of the next person's way is sweat inducing...especially if you have "Pushy Patty" behind you.
Don't you think there should be 15 second grace period after your funds have been handed over to allow for wallet coordination and/or bag arrangement before you feel violated by the next customer?
 Courtesy y'all.
Next time you are checking out at your retail store of choice...that lady who is fumbling with her wallet, sweat dripping off her brow, trying to wrangle kids ~ that's probably me, so ease up...I am moving as fast as I can.
Thank you very much ;)
So, after spending all that time on line at my beloved Tar-jay I now have copious amounts of Easter candy to deal with.
Last year I handled this problem brownie style.
This year blondies have ruled my world, so I have made a super yummy bar with all the left over Twix in the house.
Let's get this out of the way...they're sweet.  Reeeaaal sweet.
Get over it.
But for those of you with a champion sweet tooth, like mine, read on...
 Twix Blondies

3/4 cup melted butter
2 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
3 eggs
2 1/2 cup AP flour
2 t. baking powder
1 t. coarse sea salt
30 mini Twix bars coarsely chopped + 9 mini Twix reserved for garnish more finely chopped
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 t. vanilla
*also for garnish 1/2 cup melted chocolate chips for drizzle
Preheat to 350
Grease 9x13 baking pan
In medium sized bowl combine flour, baking powder and salt, whisking together.
In mixing bowl combine butter and brown sugar on low speed until smooth.
Add eggs one at a time continuing on low speed.
Slowly add the the flour mixture to the butter mixture until just combined.
Add the coarsely chopped Twix and chocolate chips stirring with wooden spoon.
Spread batter into prepared pan and bake approx 25-30 minutes until they are set.
Toothpick will come out slightly gooey.  Be careful not to overcook.
When removed from oven sprinkled reserved Twix on top and drizzle with melted chocolate.
Cool in pan for 2-3 hours or overnight.
Don't cut the bars until they are completely cooled or they will be messy :)
I really liked these because they were caramelly and gooey.  Adding the coarse sea salt is, of course, optional and you can just use regular salt, but it really gives it a nice extra. Plus, who doesn't love salted caramel?  You could even add to the garnish with some extra sea salt.

Now...what's your shopping pet peeve?

Yummy looking brownies! I don't care if people get mad... I stand there and put my card back in my wallet. Once I just held it in my hand to do a quick getaway and got to my car and thought I dropped it! Luckily it fell into a sack, but boy did I have a panic moment!!! Now I just smile at the person trying to root me out of the way and laugh and say I'm almost done. No one has beat me up yet so I guess that works :)

Haven't had a Twix bar in years.....but I sure do like them. Nice work. I also dislike the folks who don't understand personal space 'cause I need lots of it.

I share your personal space pet peeve. Why do people think that getting all up in my area is going to somehow make me move faster? It's more likely to tick me off enough to make me slower :P

Thanks for the recipe it looks amazing!

Ooohh...these look sooo good!! I have a recipe for Butterfinger Blondies that I was wanting to try this week...I hope they turn out as good as yours! My shopping pet peeve is when the cashier comments on my purchases...I mean, seriously...if I have to hear "Oh boy, someones making a bunch of cakes!!" from the Walmart lady one more time...

Mmm yes. Champion sweet tooth? Right here. Too bad I have no leftover Easter candy. These look amazing.

My shopping pet peeve? People who dig around for exact change for five minutes only to realize, no they don't actually have that dime that they thought they did.

They look so good, and I like everything salted!
shopping pet peeve? when they ask if I want paper or plastic and when I say paper they seem annoyed.

Great way to make use of all of the discount chocolate!

I too went discount shopping for lindt bunnies and also encountered B). I mean how hard is it to wait?

Oh well, maybe some people just need lessons in queue etiquette :)

Those are freakin amazing! You amaze me with your wickedly decadent desserts! Love your Target stories!! I am really annoyed when people do that to me in line also. Last time that happened to me, I got so flustered I dropped twenty dollars and did not notice it. Luckily, the salesgirl noticed and called me back.

Do you see me jumping up and down over here? I love sweet and salty!! I do!

I feel ya on the check out issue. I've been known to get a bit "ghetto" when being shoved out the door by the guy/girl behind me. :)

Besides a straight up Hershey bar, Twix would be my candy bar of choice. These are usually the first thing I steal out of my kids' Halloween/Valentine's Day/Easter candy stash. So it's easy to say that these bars look great!

Yum! I hate the people who try to move you too quickly! I also hate when the person in front of me doesn't put the little stick in between their order and what will be mine, and when I grab the stick thing so I can start putting my order on the belt, they give me a dirty look!

I answered F- yay we can still be friends!

I don't really eat a lot of candy, but Twix are on my fave list. love them! These look really good too!

the checkout line is always a nightmare for me--if i haven't picked the slowest line, then i'm being crowded by the person behind me. that's why i always do the self-checkout when at all possible!
on a brighter note, these bars look AMAZING. excellent leftover usage. :)

I agree cutting this with some sea salt is brilliant; yum!
I try to go to groceries stores when it is slow or the ethnic grocer who hardly has line to avoid getting angry or irritated.

As always your post are awesome!! Twix is my favorite candy bar.

Looks delicious! BTW, I encounted "C" at the grocery store yesterday. What really frustrated me was that I let her go in front of me because she just had two things, and I didn't want to make her wait for me and my entire cart to go through.

you had me at Twix!! I am SO making these!

Huminuh, huminuh. Delicious!

I have too many shopping pet peeves to mention. And shopping with a toddler, as I did earlier today, well, that just makes you hate people and shopping in general.

Twix are one of my all time favorites! These are so irresistible! I have a serious sweet tooth - champion for sure.

lol lol lol..I am BIG on personal space. I CANT stand when people get in mine..so I dont get in theirs.Funny story...I was in the post office a few months back..I stood there, my normal "far away" from the person in front of me, and there was this elderly lady literally up my ass and every time the person in-front of me moved up on line..she would say to me, "you better move closer or someone will take your place". I was polite the first 4 times she told me to move closer to the person in front of me..but the last time I snapped!

Whoa! Those look incredible!!!

Yeah, I hate that at the store. I try to use cash, so trying to stuff change and a mile long receipt in my wallet take just a MINUTE!!!

My pet peeve in the grocery store is when the person in front of me thinks every one of their items needs 6 inches of clearance on every side. They have 7 items, but they are taking up the entire "belt." STACK people!

Oh, and talking on cellphones at the check out....hate that!

WOW!!! looks heavenly

CookiePie said...

omg I HATE people like that. If they catch me at the wrong time I give them a sharp look and say, "Excuse me, just a second!" Not yelling, but on the loud side so other people can hear. It kind of shames them.

Meanwhile, YUM on those blondies!!!! YUM!!!

Megan said...

These look eggcellent! Hehe, get it? Egg-cellent, because it was Easter candy.
OK, sorry. I can get a bit corney. :)
The blondies look killer and I would love to have a pan of those right now. Even if it is 7 in the morning. They would go great with this cup of coffee.

Oh, I love Twix! I can't even imagine biting into one of these. Great photos.

yum!! i was in target and was behind this old lady who took forever. she had to make sure you got credit for her 2 coupons...when she handed the clerk 3. there was 2 coupons for 1 item so then she had to pick which one she wanted to use. then she asked the cashier to put the dog food in a plastic bag so she could transport it more easily (the rest of her items were in a reuseable grocery bag). and then after she walked away, she came back and said "hey don't i get a nickel back for bringing my own bag??" LOL i was thinking to myself "ummm you still used a plastic bag!"
