To Hunt or Not to Hunt

I am not a hunter...not unless you count scouring the 70% off racks at Macy's end of season...
Hunting for a bargain? yes.  Hunting for creatures? no.
But I am not against it either.  I am the Switzerland of Hunting.
Would never do it myself, but who am I to judge.
My husband has hunted in the past and we have the deer heads to prove it.  THIS, I do not understand.
Why in the WORLD would you want a head of an animal mounted to hang on the wall?
The eyes follow you saying, "Look at me now!  I could be out there eating your tulips, yet I am stuck here hanging for all of eternity."
Needless to say, those deer heads have found their home on the walls of our garage where other manly things go...tools, Velvet Elvis paintings, beer signs...you get the idea.
Call me crazy, but I have no desire to live in a death museum.
Just sayin'.
So here are some cookies I made for a gentleman who, I assume, is all about the hunting...
Here are the deer pre-garage.  Just living their life...
Hunter is getting ready...
and then...watch out!
Kinda sad huh?  Poor little deer.
So, here's the finished loot...
Hope you guys like the cookies because I feel like I am gonna go cry :(
This post was a little morbid.  I need to go put out a salt-lick or something.
Have a great week!

I completely hear what you're saying...it seems sad to me too, but I do eat meat so I can't say much. Your line about the salt lick is too funny!
Hunter or not, you did a fabulous job on the cookies! I'm sure they'll be a big hit(no pun intended), with the hunter and his hunting buddies!

Believe it or not... I am a hunter too! I go with my dad and sister every year. I already have my deer permit for this season! If I make these cookies, I'll have to make a few chick hunters, along with the mix of dudes! :)

I am pretty sure that only you could make hunting cookies look that good. Although I'm not so sure that's a skill you want to be confessing to on a regular basis.

i hate hunting, but it's something my family does religiously. and, much to my chagrin, they love to discuss their adventures...they'd all adore these cookies, and i must admit that i do too!

My honey grew up hunting but hasn't since we've been together. I think he knows I'm not eating Bambi.

I feel the same as you do. My family have never been hunters, but my brothers in laws are. He went hunting with them one time, got a deer, almost cried about it, but held it in, had his picture taken with the poor thing and nerver went again!
My hubby always says he hunts, but shoots with his camera.
Wonderful cookies, you are a true artist!!!

Our neighbor hunts. I would never... nor would my husband.

We've had a chat with our neighbor (the bow-hunter of deer) letting him know that we LOVE the deer that come to our gardens to eat the cracked corn we put out for them, and that he may NOT hunt any deer brought to our combined properties because of the food we put out.

I think in legal terms, if deer had lawyers, they could argue entrapment. Any way, our neighbor is wonderful and he's assured us he'll never hunt deer on our property or his, (because of the food we put out) where we might see.

On the other side... With the way new neighborhoods have popped up all around us, it has forced the deer out of the forests cut down to make room for them and pushed the deer population into the roads and our backyards...

One of our neighbor's dearest friends was killed when a deer jumped out in front of his motorcycle on a street near our homes. Our neighbor reminds us that deer populations must be controlled and that by thinning the population, he's actually helping healthier/stronger deer to survive. I don't know if I buy all of that but after a deer jumped out into the road in front of me, I can tell you they don't look both ways and it's tough to avoid them!

My neighbor and his wife use every bit of the deer and even provide a lot of meat to their church family.

I just want to live in world big enough for ALL the deer and where the only deer in a hunter's barrel sight are the ones on your adorable cookies!

I am sort of Switzerland on hunting, myself. But these cookies are too amazing! Like a hunter to a poor, innocent deer, you blow my mind, girl!

Geesh, that was a terrible joke.

I totally agree with all the points you made! And I know my husband would appreciate these cookies. You're such a great decorator!

You just crack me up. I totally feel sorry fot the sugar deer, but they are so very cute.

We're not hunters but Mr. H goes out back with his rifle to "pop" rats that have crept into our yard from the creek behind our house. It's very Elmer Fud like. ha!

I'm definitely with you, bargain hunting is the only kind I'll do!
Those cookies, however, are amazing. Slightly unsettling, but amazing.

I'm against hunting too!! Poor Bambi! And I absolutely can't get over the deer head thing!!! Why anyone would want to do that is beyond me?
