Pizza, Football & a Giveaway

It's that time of year again...
the time when the leaves start changing, the air gets crisp and many married women become single once again...at least on Sundays.
Football.
Whether college football is your thing, NFL or even fantasy (God bless those wives) it definitely consumes the lives of many men.
There are certainly levels of consumption:
Let's start with the average dude...he roots for his team of choice, tunes in on Sunday to see who's playing and catches up on all the rest with SportsCenter.
Next we have the "fan".  He roots for one team, likes to spout off statistics and buys tickets to see his team play.  His Sunday's are booked from now until January. He tail-gates and yells at the TV.  His wife knows that the backyard project is going to have to wait until Spring and she wouldn't even mention the invite for Sunday brunch.
Finally, the Crazy.
This is the guy that owns jerseys...even though the last time he actually played in a football game was 1992.
He is part of multiple fantasy leagues.
He may or may not have been spotted on the Jumbo-Tron with his face painted and a foam finger.
He lives and breathes football all year long, from the drafts to the training camps to the pre-season.
His Sundays are ruined when his team loses and considers the players extended family.

Now, if you don't live in the United States you are probably not affected by Sunday Football Syndrome...
but, to those of us who reside here in Football-land, we all probably know a few of the "types" I listed above.

So since you're here why don't we make football a little cute?
Whadaya say?
Pizza is one of the quintessential football foods...
but, since this is my blog...I'm gonna do pizza MY way.
Cookie pizza!
Here's the recipe:
2 sticks softened butter
1/2 cup light brown sugar
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon kosher salt
2 1/4 cups AP flour
3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Topping:
2 cups mini marshmallows
Any candy you like..I used chopped Reese's Cups, M&M's and Sno-Caps

Excuse me for a moment while I share some candy porn...
NSFD (Not Safe For Dieters)
Love this little guy.
Everyone's favorite...
Isn't candy pretty?
Thanks for staying with me here :)
Preheat to 350
Combine dry ingredients in bowl (flour, baking soda and salt), set aside
Cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy
Add eggs one at a time beating between each addition and add vanilla and beat on medium
until all combined.
Add dry ingredients.
Mix on low until just combined.
Stir in chocolate chips.

Spread batter on round baking dish, 16".
Bake 13 minutes until egdes are browned and middle is just set.
Remove from oven and spread 2 cups mini-marshmallows on top, leaving edges as the "crust".
 Bake 2 more minutes.
Remove from oven and spread "toppings" on.
Let cool completely and cut into wedges.
Now that we have dessert covered why not throw caution to the wind and be the coolest wife ever?
You already have dessert made, right?
You're half-way there!
Invite some friends over for a fun party.
I'm going to make it easy on you, check it out ~
Since one cannot live on sugar alone (trust me, I have tried),  you're gonna need some more food.
We all know buffalo wings are pretty important to a football party, right?
But the mess, not cool.
Shake N' Bake has this cool new product out right now called Shake N' Bake Crispy Buffalo.
Super easy and yummy, you get all the buffalo taste but no greasy hands on your upholstery.
Now the fun part...
Shake N' Bake is providing one of my readers a fun kit to get your party started.
Here's what you get:

  • A sample of NEW Shake ‘N Bake Crispy Buffalo
  • Football-themed serving plates
  • A tip sheet which includes tips on how to host the perfect football party
  • A $50 American Express gift card to outfit the rest of your party
**Please note that Shake ‘N Bake is not sponsoring the giveaway promotion, but rather supplying the prize.
Isn't that great?  Everything you need to get your party started!
Here's what you have to do to enter...
Leave me a comment telling me how football affects your Sundays.
One entry per person, and as always make sure you leave me your email address.
Contest closes next Tuesday, September 22nd at 11:59 pm.
Good luck everyone and GO DOLPHINS!

"Football is synonymous with Sunday at my house. My husband and I do a fantasy draft with my family (dad, brother, sister-in-law, cousin, and a random friend) and the hubby does another draft as well. I've been watching NFL since I was a kid (go bears!), and it's still the only sport I watch. We usually go over to my dad's on Sundays (he has DirecTV Sunday Ticket and laundry facilities), watch football, talk football, have dinner together, and watch some more football. We both get antsy if we have to miss our respective team's games (I'm a Bears fan all the way, and the hubby is the biggest Patriots fans in Iowa). :)"

Congrats to Randi and thanks to everyone who entered!!

Football takes a huge role in our Sundays. My family loves to sit and watch all the NFL games (I have a fantasy football team) and then we yell real loud for our Cowboys!!

Football season is the best time of year!

Reeni said...

I am in love with the cookie cake! I'd watch football just to have a piece or two of that! Football doesn't affect me at all...I'm a part of a baseball loving family!

amanda @ fake ginger said...

Okay, please pack up a piece and send it to me. I'm dying here looking at those pictures! I'm making it this weekend and then eating it all by myself. YUM!

As far as Sundays, football IS out Sunday. We start at noon and watch 'til the night game ends.

Love the cookie pizza and love the "NSFD" pictures too!! Fall is a difficult time for us... My fiance wants to watch football on Sundays and I want to watch Desperate Housewives. He normally wins! Thank goodness for DVR.

My husband goes fantasy football crazy on Sundays. For me, it means eating fun snack food and enjoying fun times with the family.

Sundays (and Saturdays!) this time of year for us mean our house is full of people! We have the most get-together friendly house of our close group of friends, so everyone is usually at our house all day on Sundays!

Desi said...

Um we LOVE football season here. I devote Sundays to watching my Bengals, and other games also sometimes. Sometimes we invite friends over, sometimes it is just my fiancee and I. But there is always beer and food! The outcome of the game literally affects my mood for the entire day. And if you saw those Bengals last weekend, lets just say I had a pretty bad Sunday :(

AngelaBeth said...

Those plates are so cute! I'm loving it! I have a baseball team and a basketball team but for the life of me I can't choose a football team... so I just watch whatever game is on and choose who I want to win *that* game! Hahahah! Makes for a lot of football :)

Sometimes it affects it in a good way if the Cowboys win, if they lose like last Sunday it is gloomy in my house!

My husband likes football, but he's not obsessed like most guys. So i would have to say football really doesn't effect our Sunday's. :)

Ps. I love the idea of the cookie pizza. It looks so yummy :)

Football only affects Saturdays around our house (GO Irish!!), and when they play we can't do anything else!

I got down to the second picture and gasped! A cookie pizza! possibly one of the best ideas ever. The toppings look deliciously naughty. I'm in Australia so my weekends are football free.

I used to hate football. Until I met my husband. Now, I love it! Sunday's are our favorite. All nice and cozy with warm food, enjoying the series of games! As you said, our Sundays are booked here until January! But we both love it!

Go Seahawks! :)

We don't have a television...so very little football for us this year! Which is probably a good thing because we get distracted too easily! However...that doesn't mean I still can't make that amazing cookie pizza. I don't mind that distraction at all!

Heather said...

Football and Fantasy football happen around our house. I'm not a big football fan, but it's relaxing for my husband so we go with it.

Danielle said...

My parents never liked football so it wasn't ever very important in our house. The cookie cake looks amazing! They're my favorite(:

Football affects my Sundays because I really can't speak to my husband when he's focused on a game. I make sure to speak to him on Saturdays about anything important! LOL.

The maximum impact football ever has is keeping one or two friends from joining me on a bike ride. I can survive that. Could survive it better with that pizza!

I came for the pizza cookie - what a amazing decadent dessert!

My son got into football last year - his favorite team is the Saints (I think!)

Ok first, that cookie pizza is so adorable and making me extra hungry.

Second, I am a part-time football widow and our regular Sunday brunches are cancelled every football season. Not to mention every 'normal' Monday and Thursday night we used to have.

Since my husband loves football and I really dont it doesnt affect me too much. He watches downstairs and I watch or read upstairs. We do have a Super bowl food party and that's always fun.

We are football fans in my house. We enjoy football, but we pretty much only watch KC Chiefs games (I know you are sending me your sympathy), plus the playoffs and the Super Bowl. My husband isn't overly consumed with football, just a fan like I am. The biggest football fan in our house seems to be our 13-month-old who is greatly enjoying the start of his second football season; can anyone say future quarterback!

Though it is strange for a 20 year old girl to love football, but I do! Football is what shapes my Sundays and Monday [and sometimes thursdays]. I make sure I go to the early church service so I can make it to the first game of the day. My friends and I all gather around my TV and attempt to do homework while we are all really just checking how our fantasy football teams are doing.
I love your blog and I would love love this. Being on a college student's budget I always drool over football party pieces but can never have them. Maybe I will get lucky :]

After church, football consumes my Sundays. But not by choice!!! My husband is still learning the skill of sharing the remote :) Plus, he is in a fantasy league for the first time ever this season. "I'll probably spend like 10 minutes on it" has turned into his laptop in his lap all day on Sunday!!

Maria said...

Since I'm newly single, I'll be able to enjoy watching my team, the Chiefs, on Sundays! I've been to a few games, but I'm not like a superfan or anything. I just like to follow how they're doing and watch a game when I can.

Love the cookie pizza - I used to make one similar, but I used a peanut butter cookie base. Gonna have to make that again. Thank you!

It doesn't really effect me unless I"m trying to go downtown in Nashville! Thankfully, there aren't too many football fans in my life that HAVE to watch it every sunday!

For us Guammie Bears the football games are usually while we are sleeping or earrrrrrly in the morning. So Sunday mornings are up at 4am sometimes to catch a game and we do Mimosa's and breakfast party food. Hm a breakfast pizza might be yummy! But then it's watching highlights and either fist-pumping or pouting for the rest of the day for the men.

Love this idea for a cookie pizza, fantastic for tailgating! My husband would definitely fall under the "fan" category. He screams so loud at the tv when things don't go his way that our dog leaves the room and hides in the bathroom! So needless to say it's a little loud at my house!

So my question is this. Which of those types is YOUR husband?

I'm so not a football fan. I'll just take the pizza and the superbowl commercials. God that pizza looks good. I might start watching football just so I have an excuse to make it!

Your pizza looks awesome!
My daughter used to make these for her friends for their birthdays and deliver them in pizza boxes(unused).

Football doesn't affect our Sundays too much. We still go to church and if it's a good game(team we like)we might watch it.

That's a really long answer.

Okay, Shelly, you have to know from having boys of your own that ESPN is on 24/7 regardless of the season! Seriously, they will even watch in their sister's room. She get's so mad when she goes in there and finds her TV set to one of the ESPN channels. LOL I don't watch TV so it doesn't bug me. They are actually quiet so I get to sneak off and do my thing.

Football in my house means we barely see my husband on Sunday, because even though he's primarily a Giants fan, he "loves all footall" (translation: watches every single game that's on that day). It also means I spend half the day in the kitchen making his special wings that need to be deep fried and then take a turn in the oven with a glaze coating, since I can only deep fry 6 at a time. The poor kids just want to watch Thomas the Train. lol *sigh* gotta love football season...

I LOVE college football (Fightin' Texas Aggies are my team!), but am just 'eh' about pro-ball... If I were to pick a team I'm a hometown girl and will pull for my Houston Texans.

I love everything about football season! The games, the weather, the food... YAY!

I'm not big into football (I would be if hubby was, but he's not) so we don't watch it. So it doesn't really effect my Sundays.

Football is a big deal in our house. I am more a college fan and hubby watches it all!

Can't wait to for the University of Texas vs Texas Teach game that is tonight. :)

It is what we wait for all year long. I am a NY Giants fan living with a Dallas Cowboys fan. It is always interesting. We stay in all day, cook great food and just watch football.

We are fair-weather-friends - if a team is good - we are on board! Woo hoo. Go Team!

We head on over to the bar on the Military Base we live on! We are there from 1pm until the last game on Sunday ends. Good food and a few drinks. This is the only way I get to see my STEELERS play! They don't play much of them on tv in New England (ugh Patriots). At any rate, when my team is on TV, I get have parties at my house that always include chili cheese dip, wings, chips, and good friends!

Thanks for sharing all your info and your blog rocks!

My kind of pizza! That looks great!

My son and husband are big football fans. Lots of yelling at the TV on Sunday. I like to watch on occasion. Anything that gets my family all in one room together is okay with me!

Great giveaway. That easy chicken sounds very yummy:)

Although we (meaning my husband) watch football on sundays- we have our big football day on Saturday. This year we got tickets for the whole family for Beaver Football! My hubby's almamater! I like football but LOVE tailgating- so I'll have to try the cookie pizza recipe, yum! joshnleslie@hotmail.com

I love your cookie pizza. Well football affects my Sundays in a way that is unexplainable. I practically lose my husband for an entire day. And maybe, if I could incorporate my baking into his "day of fun," he'd remember we were married : )

That pizza looks heart attack inducingly good :) I'm in India, so it's no football, instead, cricket and soccer almost every single day!!!

Football doesn't affect my Sundays nearly as much as it does my Saturdays, as we are college football people here. But my husband will invite all of his friends over a few times during the season on Sundays just so he has an excuse to ask me to make his favorite tailgating foods.

Great post! My husband is somewhere between fan and the crazy. There have definitely been some bad Sundays when the team doesn't win. That cookie pizza just looks incredible, though. Yummmmmm.

well, I live in the state of Alabama, so football does not affect my Sundays as much as it affects my Saturdays. ROLL TIDE ROLL!!

Football...LOVE LOVE LOVE Football, but with 3 young kids who LOVE their sports to, there is little time to catch the games all day on Sundays. :(

We are a football loving family!!! Both my boys play and we love watching it together.

Football is synonymous with Sunday at my house. :)

The rule in our house is that he can watch as much football as he'd like as long as he mutes the volume! Then it doesn't impede on my Sunday if I'm trying to read or something:) somehow my husband agreed to that.....Go Chargers!

Sure football affects my Sundays but not in a negative way! I love to have the games on while I do other things. Being in a confidence pool definitely makes it more enjoyable and so would that pizza cookie. Looks delish! I will be trying that soon.

We're a huge football family here!I don't have a favorite NFL team but on Saturdays it's the UK Wildcats all the way! Since my husband discovered that his cousin who lives two blocks from us has the NFL channel where you can watch 8 games at one time, we spend our sundays at his house! But, his girlfriend and I usually make dinner. bake, and watch a movie while they're watching all the games so it works out!

Can't say I'm a huge football fan...I feel like the game really starts and stops WAy too many times and I get distracted...maybe that's why there's so many snacks?!? :) I CAN say that I've been dreaming of this cookie pizza since I first glanced at it the other day! YUMM!
